Watch the Majestic Potomac River Flow at Great Falls National Park

  |     |   Uncategorized

The powerful Potomac River takes center stage at Great Falls National Park. True to its name, the park showcases a series of stunning waterfalls where the Potomac gushes over jagged rocks. On a warm summer’s day, hike to one of the overlooks to see its awe-inspiring waves crash toward the basin below.

The first overlook is the best spot to get a close-up view of the falls. It’s a bit of a rocky hike down the trail to the dirt viewing platform, but the stunning panorama of the falls will be well worth your efforts. Of course, if you’re looking for an easier hike, the large park has plenty of options for you. Most of the trails that are part of its 15-mile network will offer at least glimpses of the river and its falls. There are also portions of the park where you can go fishing, boating, or horseback riding. And the entire green space is a great spot for bird-watching! Bring along a picnic lunch and grab one of the tables to refuel after your day in nature.
